With her up and coming hit “U Turn Me On,” Jamie Jo is the next big thing coming out of Miami. Homegrown, her influences have stemmed from late nights dancing at world-renowned clubs like Mansion and Opium, only giving her a glimpse of the glam life that awaits her success. MiamiParties.com had the opportunity to sit down with Jamie Jo during Winter Music Conference ’08 to get her take on her rising stardom.

Making our way across the lavish courtyard at the Shore Club in South Beach, we were greeted in a beautiful bungalow by a local girl, ready to take on the music industry, one hit at a time. Gracefully outstretching her hand to be introduced, Jamie Jo was enthusiastic to describe to us her latest work.  Poised, stylish, and very charming, she has a refreshing feel. Her relaxing, laid-back demeanor was without a doubt refreshing during the madness of WMC. She undeniably helped me notice the palm trees, exotic flowers, and tropical colors surrounding us before we stepped back

Delighted to share her past, Jamie Jo put in plain words her life growing up in Miami. She has been inspired in many creative areas of life. She left briefly to study photography at NYU, and tries to take pictures when she can, but it didn’t take long to lure her back. She’s cheered as our very own University of Miami Hurricane saying, “who doesn’t love the Hurricanes!” where she studied Art History. But let’s cut to the chase, the one thing that keeps her attention and her longing in life is music.

Spending long days on the beach or a boat, dancing until the wee hours of the morning at the clubs, and familiarity with the creativity of the city have all contributed to the artistic ability she displays in her new album In Violet. She describes her music very simply stated as a “dance and [Miami] lifestyle music. Miami is about lifestyle, going to restaurants, and enjoying yourself.” Also adding, “It has European undertones to it, with a little South American influence.”

Listening to house music, electro- pop, and loving the way it feels to dance to that music, it was her goal to recreate those expressions herself. “I really wanted to bring that sound to people because that’s what I really enjoy dancing to, and people come here for the nightlife.”

Releasing her first single this summer, “U Turn Me On,” which features Barry Gibb of the Bee Gee’s, Jamie Jo was ready to explain why we should all look forward to hearing it in the clubs. “It’s a hot dance song. It’s perfect for the nightclubs in Miami, perfect for the dance floor at Mynt or Mokai. It’s hot and steamy, about dancing with a crush or a partner that really turns you on.” She can’t wait for the day that she’s thrown in the mix and the DJ gives her a shout out at the club.

Produced by David Elliott, who also worked with Destiny’s Child, Jamie Jo’s In Violet needs to be the next contribution to your CD collection or iTunes library. With such a distinct feel, and electro-pop sound, its something you throw on and never intend to take out. Check out her webpage www.jamiejo.com for the latest updates about her success, and keep your ears open for her at the club, “U Turn Me On” is sure to be the next hit you fall for.
