  J-LO, PAUL OAKENFOLD, KOSHEEN AND FATBOY SLIM AMONG WINNERS AT THE FIRST AMERICAN DANCE MUSIC AWARDS, DANCESTAR USA
 
MIAMI BEACH, FL – March 24, 2002 – Dance Star USA, The American Dance Music Awards, made history last night at the spectacular Jackie Gleason Theater with the first ever awards show of its kind in the U.S. Stars, dance music industry movers and shakers and the adoring public turned out in droves for what quickly became the highlight of this year’s dance music festivities in Miami Beach.

  The tension was palpable as audience members awaited the results of sixteen dance music categories, including “Best Album of the Year” which went to Felix Da Housecat for “Kittenz & Thee Glitz”. Other winners included J-Lo for Best Chart Act, Crystal Method for Best Act, Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” for Best Video of the Year, Paul Oakenfold for Best International DJ, DJ Heather for Best Breakthrough DJ, and Kosheen’s “Hide U” for Record of the Year.

The nominees had been selected by the DanceStar Academy, consisting of top DJs, producers, record label heads and A&Rs. Fifteen out of the sixteen awards presented were chosen by the general public via the DanceStar website, which received over 20,000 votes.

The evening was hosted by the legendary Roger Sanchez and chart-topping Kelis. Award presenters included Lenny Kravitz, Dallas Austin, Danny Tenaglia, Crystal Method, Goldie, Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter. The highlight of the evening went to double winner Fatboy Slim, who received the accolades for both Best Video and Best International Act. He paid respect to the contingency of American DJs in the house, whom he thanked and credited as the reason he wanted to make music.

 

 

Guests were treated to spectacular performances by the crème de la crème of dance music,
including Kosheen, Timo Maas featuring Kelis, Grandmaster Flash, Funky Green Dogs and Green Velvet.
Masters At Work stole the show with an explosive performance by Trinidadian vocalist Denise Belfon
accompanied by plumed carnival dancers.DanceStar USA, The American Dance Music Awards, will
